Detroit. The once mighty industrial capital of
the U.S.A. and home to some of the greatest sonic output to ever grace the
annals of rock and roll. Detroit Rock City, the place where musical dynasties
were formed (Motown) and from which outspoken icons of popular music emerged
(think Ted Nugent and Eminem). And then there's Kid Rock. One can't
begin a discussion of Detroit's music scene without mentioning the bona fide
champion of white boy hip-hop and trailer-trash rock.
In late 1998 the band released Devil Without
a Cause and quickly took the radio and MTV nation by storm with the
infectious metal romp "Bawitdaba."
In the wake of the album's release, Rock
and TBT hit the road on a live show whirlwind that included a shared bill
with Limp Bizkit and a successful main stage stop at Woodstock '99. To top
it all off, Devil Without a Cause was certified double platinum in
early August. When asked about his long rise to the top, Rock slyly
remarks, "It's been like a 10-year overnight success."
So what's next for the Kid? Why, world
domination of course, country by country.
