Hull Friends of the Earth General Meeting Tuesday 3 February 2004
20.00 at the Pop-In, 78 Lambert Street Hull
1) It was decided after discussion that we should switch our meetings to Recycling Unlimited, 151 Newland Avenue. David was delegated to collect akey and be the keeper of it. The meeting should have voted thanks to Arthur for finding the alternative venue.
2) Items to the newsletter.
3) AGM: to be held at (Recycling Unlimited 151 Newland Avenue) on Tuesday 6 April at 8 p.m.
4) Short discussion on FoE Sierra Leone. We will need to talk about this again!
5) Fluoridisation of water. Group needs to tell national FoE if we think it should be a campaign issue. Haris reported there will be consulation by authorities, but firther discussion needed.
6) Barmy Drain trees. David will be delivering them by milk float. ETA Lockwood Street bridge, 10.45, Sunday 29 February. Be there in gardening boots, with spades.
7) An be ready to take lots of photos! David has informed Councillors Inglis and Hale.
8) Chrys delivered her report on shredding activities: calm in January, but a good year on the whole. Activity will be extended into Newland Park on an on-demand basis. Supply of volunteers was not constant or dependable, but things seem to be looking up (like one keen new volunteer was welcomed at the meeting).
9) Bus Forum, Albemarle Centre, Wed 25 Feb noon. Topic: bus subsidies and cuts.
10) Funding compact: Pam to attend (several other members were going in other capacities).
11) Feedback on motions from Conference.
12) Funding Fair: Haris, Saphia, Pam, Alan T. obviously interested, attending if they can.
13) Tony Juniper at York. Lots of people going to put point of view of local group.
14) Haris to write formal letter of complaint about Celebration Green and how it is vandalised.
15) Yorkshire Rail Community Partnership: Arthur to invite someone to speak at meeting.
16) Environment Fair, North Ferriby, Saturday 27 March, To rasie awareness at a potential waste (incinerator??) site. Can we run a stall there? Volunteers??
17) Saphia presented the WOW newsletter. Unanimously agreed that Alan T write a letter of support on behalf of the groups.
18) Anthony Rae, FoE Board member for our region, outlined FoE’s direction, his role as link between national FoE and local groups, and his aims in that role. There was some discussion around the theme of envrionmental justice, FoE’s new buzzword.
