Hull Friends of the Earth General Meeting Tuesday 4 May 2004
20.00 at Recycling Unlimited, 151 Newland Avenue Hull
13 Members present, plus Ian Latta and Lorelei Line from Green Energy
1 Ian and Lorelei explained the Humberwind offshore wind farm project for between 60 and 80 5MW turbines. They stressed the initial assessments to be made of birds, fish, fishing, shipping, navigation, low-flying planes and archaeology. There would be extensive public consultation, including via an interactive website, soon to be set up at www.humbergateway.co.uk.
2 Spring Green Fair. 6 laminated posters for signposting outside on the day. Volunteers were identified for the stall, the door, the kitchen, and setting up. Some to start the night before. Anybody who can help is still welcome, there will be something to do for everyone.
3 Chrys reported that Garden Waste Collection figures were going up. More details on the new website, www.hfoe.org.uk. Discussion on use of the milk float for other jobs. It was agreed that this should not be to the detriment of its main use for collecting garden waste. The meeting agreed that the Garden Waste Collection had been a pilot scheme for WOW, and that WOW needed to be autonomous.
4 Haris reported on consultation concerning three regional strategies on space, the environment, trees (to appear in next Eco).
5 Celebration Green. The Council had replied that this was now the property of Yorkshire Forward. The preservation of the trees did not seem to be assured.
6 Bite back: signatures to be collected at Green Fair (petition downloaded by me).
7 Note the GWCS fund-raiser meal at Hitchcock's, details in and with current Hull Eco, as well as details of raffle prizes.
8 Alan W reported that the York day was well organised and moved that we should adopt their idea of a welcome pack for new members.Stephen
