Money matters, signing of cheques, and so on.
Thanks to Arthur for organising the fund-raising dinner and prizes for the raffle. Hilary had sent a thank-you card to Hitchock's for their support. The total raised was £542.
Agreed to accept Recycling Unlimited's offer of the downstairs room for meetings. This avoided the problems of access and escape and kept the same venue, which was convenient and avoided the confusion of changing and notifying people.
Deadline for the next newsletter was august meeting. Stephen to e-mail Alan T to ask if material was getting to him.
WOW update: explanation of background.
Green Fair: the Marist Hall had been booked for Saturday 20 November 2004.
Lord Mayor's Parade 10 July. Theme "Greening the City". Volunteers requested, Stephen to send e-mail with details (Walton Street no later than 10.30, judging 11 to 11.30, move off noon, procession to East Park).
Planning Matters:
a Barmston Drain Cycle Path. Map considered by meeting, Stephen instructed to send letter of support.
b Golf Links Road allotments. This was a site of nature conservation interest, and a letter objecting to the construction of 74 houses on the site had been sent.
c Celebration Centre trees. Recap of situation. Haris to remind Tim Beckley.
CARGO: Chrys reported on work. She and Mark collected pallets, constructed compost bins. Reaction favourable, waste collection up, team of volunteers working well. Contact with Bishop Burton to be renewed. Query re use of railway sleepers and telephone poles for making raised beds: contamination by carcinogens?
Sierra Leone: photos passed around. Sue had sent them some photos of our activities.
Fair Trade event: details passed around.
Report of Compact meeting and background.
Chrys showed new T-shirt designs: to carry on.
FoE Conference: Chrys and Alan W delegated.
Arthur asked how long the milk float could be expected to last. Discussion on battery life and who to compare notes with.
Letters to candidates in local and European elections. Action on this had not been pursued because by the time the letters were available, people had already started to vote. In planning this exercise, account should have been taken of the fact that we were voting by post and so over a longer period. Worth noting that when we tried writing to candidates before, at the start of the incinerator campaign, candidate response on this important local issue was negligible.
David reported on tree-planting. Endeavour School would be participating. The group agreed that we could provide matching funding in cash or kind for a bid to the Tree Council.
