Skulking Loafers vs Felpham Barbarians
The season is finally here and after a long winter of no cricket the Loafers finely tuned in the nets are ready to receive the first visitors of the season. It is always good to have the lads from Felpham over as we have been very evenly matched over the years both on the field and in the alehouse afterwards. With the outfield having had a winter of neglect the grass was so long that shorter members of both teams were advised not to venture to far from the wicket for fear of them getting lost.
Loafers batted first and wickets tumbled at a steady rate until Holmes and I.King came together with Holmes in particular
good form. A total of 105 was very respectful in the conditions. The Barbarians innings had two long partnerships but the runs were proving hard to come by with captain Budd of the Loafers giving 8 of his bowlers a spell and in the end there were not enough overs for the Barbarians. All retired to The Coach & Horses to mull over what might have and might not have been over a couple of ales and some grub, what a splendid way to start the season off and a victory to boot.
