Skulking Loafers vs Revelation.
With the great British summer in full flow (we are now averaging 1 game every two weeks, instead of two every week,) the Loafers are today pitted against Revelation. The ground at New Park Road was cleared of grazing ruminants before play could commence it was assumed cleared but towards the end of the game a courting couple lying undiscovered in the outfield were sharply awoken by one of the few shots to reach the boundary via a naked buttock. Conditions were going to be a major factor in this game and local knowledge would play a strong hand as Revelation are always assisted in the divine by their twelve man. The toss was won by the Revs who elected to bat in conditions ideally suited to seam bowling the Revs were soon in trouble. The opening bowlers N.Holmes and S.King gave little away and took 3 wickets between them. Revelation then thought that they might get a few easy runs but veteran Nick Pentecost was on hand to deliver his most devastating spell of the season, his 4 overs cost just 8 runs and 3wickets of the Revs were also to his credit, Revelation had no way back and posted what all thought a rather low score even in the conditions of 51. The Loafers reply was assumed to be a formality but the Revs with their divine assistant were not going to yield that easily, and indeed took to the task extremely well. Tight bowling a couple of wickets and the Loafers were in trouble as well. The game built in tension not by the scoring of runs but the lack of scoring, and it was not until the buttuck in deep that glanced the ball over the boundary rope in the penultimate over were the Loafers allowed to breath a sigh of relief. Only 79 runs came off the bat in total during this match and the pitch ran out an easy winner though the contest was absorbing if only in a you had to be there way .All retired for beer and grub at The Coach and Horses to discuss the meaning of life and how to bat on the New Park Road wicket.Loafers are six out of six can this go on.
