Selsey vs Skulking Loafers

This fixture is traditionally our hardest away game, throughout the years we have played Selsey, very rarely do we come out on top. Selsey is situated at the southern most tip of Sussex, and by all accounts there is not a hill in sight, but somehow the cricket pitch finds itself on the side of a hill though. This fixture then poses similar problems to the visitor as does New Park Road to the uninitiated. The light at Selsey is good as opposed to New Park Road so no problems should arise of where did that go or what was that as the ball speeds past a fielder to the far boundary. This being the eighth game of the season and seven wins so far, now this is the test, can the Loafers come away from Selsey unbeaten. The Loafers won the toss and decided to bat steady progress was made and then came a clatter of wickets, 3 wickets fell for the addition of only 7 runs, but the a partnership of 49 between A.Wallsgrove and M.Dunn put a look of respectability to the score and a good wag in the tail allowed The Loafers to post a total of 119 off their alloted 20 overs. Selsey in reply got off to a good start with Nick Field who has scored a lot of runs in the past few seasons and the man we have to get out. The opening bowlers of The Loafers although keeping it relatively tight could not break through, an inspirational change of bowling from captain Budd, led to the break through, and the prized wickets of the Selsey openers were captured by The Loafers reluctant spinner Gary McDougal. Thereafter the batting was mostly contained and wickets fell at regular intervals, with the Loafers experienced seamers holding sway in a tight nail biting finale. This was a famous victory for the Loafers and we roll on now eight out of eight.
