DAY NINE - TUESDAY MAY 22, 2001
No Burros? What do you mean, no burros. Well we missed getting a burro ride by an hour. Who gets up at 7:00 a.m. to ride an ass? We thought we were good getting up at 8:30 a.m. So now what? Our day at the Grand Canyon was kind of ruined. Laura was not happy. The one thing that she looked forward to (riding the burros) was impossible. We then walked around the North Rim taking a few photos.
Instead of spending the day down in the Grand Canyon we headed up to Bryce Canyon instead. Boy was this a great idea. Bryce Canyon had the most incredible rock formations (Hoodoos) in a golden orange color that just glowed. We stopped at the first stop in the park and found a 1 1/2 mile Navajo pathway down to the canyon bottom and back up. On the way down our jaws were dropped open. It was a zig-zag on the way down 2,000 feet through tunnels and the glowing rocks. When we felt safe enough to look up or back we saw a deep blue sky over the bright orange rocks.
As great as the trip down was, the trip back up to the rim of Bryce Canyon was hard. The zig-zag patterns returned only this time we were walking up hill. Oh boy! But there were some great views to see while we caught our breaths. Laura even had a fun bout of vertigo forcing her knees to act like jelly. She had to wait while I caught up.
We camped at a KOA near Bryce Valley. They people in Utah are not smart.
Phrase of the day: "We're in Iowa, Ohio, Idaho, ugh I mean Utah,"
Word of the day: "Hoodoos" Because we like saying it so much.
Big dead tree near the big deep hole.
Ooooh, Aaaaah.
Think anyone has jumped?
Another dead tree.
HELLO-O-O-O-O.
The F in rock. All you Carriers should know that one.
Redrum, redrum, I mean Red Rock, Red Rock.
"Look at all those stupid tourists down there." "Yeah, they need to get jobs."
"Can we fit under that tunnel?" "I don't know, do we need the air conditioner?"
Oooh, pretty.
Dominoes anyone?
That's NOT a chipmunk!
I bet if I run really fast, I could make it.
Are you sure this is the right way?
Single file by height, please.
Oooh a bridge you can't cross.
The way back up!
It keeps going and going and ...
Are we there yet?
Lead singer.
The back ups.
Binoculars for a guy with a reeeealy big head.
A sign.
The natural bridge to nowhere.
Another natural wonder.
Another natural wonder.
You guessed it, another natural wonder.
