DAY TWELVE - FRIDAY MAY 25, 2001

Death Valley. Even the name sounds bad. What is worse is 110 degree heat. And though dry heat is better than humid heat, 110 degrees is still damn hot.

Circus Circus check out time 12 Noon. That meant in 2 hours and 30 minutes we would be in our campground at Furnace Creek (we get the furnace part, but where's the creek?) in Death Valley, a long stone's throw from the lowest elevation in the western hemisphere. This meant arriving in Death Valley at around 2:30pm. More prime time heat.

It's hot!

Phrase of the day: "There is no way we're turning off the generator at 7pm. There are only 2 other campers here for 150 spaces. They can move!"

Addition:

Today was the day Rick proposed to Laura. Thankfully she said yes. This was added after the trip as it was a surpise to the family we'd see on the way back.

Here's the story:

The desert, not much to say about it.

Sand storm, the only thing moving, aside from us, for miles.

It's hot.

Yep, we're that bored.

Desert thingys.

Death Valley.

More deserty things.

You can read this one.

-190 feet sea level. Help we're drowning.

um, the desert.

Lookee us in the desert. Rick hasn't started sweating, but it's only been 2 minutes.

Awww, a sweet, moistened hug.

Scotty's castle. Why would tell your friend to build his summer home in Death Valley?

Dusk, a time to contemplation...no, just waiting for the temperature to drop.

Yaz, be a coyote, be a coyote.

Don't run too fast, it's still pretty hot out here.

The sun sets over the puppy, I mean the sun sets over the desert.

The sunset.

Hey, it's almost cool enough to stand outside for 30 seconds.

The new addition to Laura's hand.
