DAY TWENTY THREE - TUESDAY JUNE 5, 2001

We decide the most important thing in the world is to get out of Missouri as fast as we can. Ask no questions, don't collect your $200, and be sure never ever to return. Something isn't right there and we don't want to be like the characters in horror stories that wait around to see what the scary sound in the attic is.

Once we hit the Illinois border, we still didn't feel safe. We decided to drive as far away from Missouri as possible. Can the RV drive to Europe?

It was as if the Missouri god, aka Satan himself, was trying to get us to stop. In our path, a monsoon. This would be bad enough under normal driving conditions. But driving without a window in a monsoon is even harder. But onward we drive, determined to get as far away from Missouri as possible.

We finally stop in a small town outside Columbus, Ohio. It isn't far enough away from Missouri yet, but Rick is a little cold from driving in the rain.

Phrase of the day: "You think you're sooo cool because you have a window, don't you?" (Rick to a passing car).

The Arch as we high tail it out of that place that used to be a state.

We've never been so happy in our our lives.

It's hard to drive when the whole inside of the car is wet.

Duct tape, what a neat idea, Laura.

Why does it only rain when we have no windows?

I can't wait to drive through that.

Yep, it is as bad as it looks. Who knew the Illinois-Indiana monsoon season was in June.
