DAY TEN - WEDNESDAY MAY 23, 2001
Today is Zion day. We drove the hour and a half from Bryce Canyon to Zion in the morning. The East Entrance was the way to head into the park as it was just magnificent. Big Rocks, big canyons and lots of red winding roads. We're moving to Zion someday, too. Zion was unlike the other parks in that we drove right through the park instead of on top looking down, this was the way to go. Every turn had something new and wonderful to look at. Once we parked we had to take a shuttle bus to the stops. The first stop... Zion Lodge. Here we had to hike about 2 miles (felt like 2,000) to the Emerald Pools. The first pool was fantastic with waterfalls drizzling over the edge into a fertile alcove. The second pool required a bit more strenuous hiking. And like the hike through Bryce, we were not prepared as we were outfitted in sandals. At least this time we had water. The second Emerald Pool was more like a little creek but pretty nonetheless. The third pool, well we didn't quite make it all the way up, as it was over 95 degrees and reports were that it was more of an Emerald marsh than a pool. After the Zion Lodge we saw lots of great big rocks and the Virgin River. All in all, it was our favorite park to date.
After Zion it was on to Sin City. Viva Las Vegas. About a 2 and a half hour drive minus an hour for the time change (which is always nice) and we were in Vegas. Lots of eye candy. We wanted to put a sign in the back window that read "Bills too high, Hate wearing a tie, Las Vegas or Bust." We got to see all the casinos on the drive in and will look into losing all our money on gambling and shows.
Can someone send us more money please?
Phrase of the Day: "All You Can Eat, is NOT a good idea." Twice today we were lured in by the sound of All You Can Eat. Once in the morning with a small country All You Can Eat pancakes for $1.99. Then later we were conned into a Steak and Lobster + All You Can Eat Buffet at the Stardust for $10.99. Both times we felt ready to burst. Boy, have our stomachs shrunk.
Finally, a day without a cold shower!!
Happy, happy, joy, joy.
Oooooh, today, we go to Zion.
