We have just been celebrating 40 years of independence the past 12 days or so. Personally, I am of the opinion that the only thing we have to celebrate is the right to take responsibility for our own actions. Otherwise -- precisely and absolutely nothing! We are 40 years more corrupt, inept, narrow minded and tribalist -- small cause for festivities! |

Even the illiterate cannot have escaped the little fiasco of the Priest and the Minister that transpired some weeks back. For those of us who live with heads in the soil, one Father Dominic Wamugunda, the UoN chaplain and one Martha Karua, Minister of Water, happened to be in the formers car with bodyguards conspicuous by their absence when they were carjacked and spent some time together in the boot of the same. Now, as soon as this story broke the safety of the two was a question that arose as an afterthought. The first question that came to many is "What were they doing together alone?" The bottom line, o ye news thirsty Kenyans, is that it is entirelyirrelevant what they were doing, and none of our business to boot! It matters not a whit if they were delivering a letter or a sack of potatoes. It's none of our business if they were playing hide and seek or strip poker! |

The Nation caused me much merriment yesterday when they broke the story of a Cabinet Minister, an assistant minister and an MP were videotaped in their hanky panky, arrested, and |
| escorted by the seats of their trousers to Central Police Station to record statements. Why did I laugh, you ask? Well, I must confess first of all the derision with which I hold politicians is second to none I think more highly of pond scum and that stuff that accumulates between the toes after two weeks straight of tight fitting shoes and no air. In addition, just three weeks ago they were in a HIV workshop in Mombasa where they gave a resounding and tear-jerking support to anti HIV initiatives in Kenya. Now we find these fellows sowing seeds left right and center! And another issue that gets my goat is the double standards employed. Why, oh why should the parliamentarians be released while the girls spend the night in the cooler and look forward to court and impressive fines and jail terms? They should either have all been released or all be jailed! The hypocrisy of it all! |
