Short Summary
It's about a young reporter, Hibiki who has been assigned to be a war reporter. The war is between the alien nation (Marduk) and Earth. The Marduk uses their emulator, Ishtar, to sing for them. By having Ishtar sing for them, they will have the strength to fight a war. Hibiki somehow gets on to one of the enemy (Marduk's) ships and he brings Ishtar to Earth. On Earth, Ishtar starts to find out the true meaning of singing, not for war but for love.

Review and thoughts
Unlike Macross Plus, Macross II is just basically a love story. I don't think the story line in this OAV is that great. Nevertheless, it is worthwhile to watch, considering Ishtar (the main girl character) is so cool in this OAV. The music is quite nice too. But the English dubbed version of Macross II is not very well dubbed. If you haven't watched it, I suggest you watch the one with English subtitles. I also think that Macross II should have been longer, and a lot of the characters in it are not very well-covered, I mean the OAV didn't introduce a lot of characters and mechas. One more thing that I don't like is the main character, Hibiki, loves Sylvie instead of Ishtar at the end (The main guy character supposed to like the main girl character!) Anyway, I still think that it's quite a good love story.
