Markham Park
Very large park.

To Get There:  Markham park is located northwest of Miami and directly west of Ft. Lauderdale, in Sunrise.  From the east: I-595 to Exit 1 (SW 166th Ave) and continue west on SR84 for two miles.  Park entrance is on right.  From the north/south: I-75 and exit on Arvida Parkway, which is one way and heads west.  Turn right on Weston Road and park is straight ahead, 3 miles.  Small entry fee.  Ask the park ranger where to park.

This park offers everything a mountain biker needs: showers, bike wash, restrooms, and picnic areas.  The park also offers trails for everyone.  Paved jogging/biking trails at one extreme and ladder stunts and drop offs at the other extreme.  Compared to other south Florida parks, the trails here tend to be more technical in every respect.  The roots are bigger, the climbs are steeper, and the drops are fast.  Though the highest hill may only be 50 feet, there is a lot of climbing and it tends to be steep.  Stunts such as elevated bridges and ramps are dispersed throughout the trail system for you to discover.  The sections of trail tend to be rather short and consequently feel like the have less "flow" compared to other trails.

Typical drops

Overall, Markham park can be the most technical of the south Florida parks if you choose the appropriate routes.  Difficult sections can be avoided and many stunts have bypasses.  If you're less skilled, there are easier off-road trails.  The trails are well maintained and you will enjoy your visit.

The park also offers a shooting range, water sports, equestrian trails, camping, and more.  16001 West State Road 84 Sunrise, FL 33326 (954) 389-2000
