Lord Tantalus Deviant from the planet Arqa, rumored to have been created by the Dreaming Celestial. Tantalus possesses the power of a "Black Legacy"- a field of black energy that he focuses through his hands. Nearly all organic life that comes in contact with this energy instantly perishes. Using his power, Tantalus conquered Arqa, professing that the Deviants of all worlds were destined to triumph over all other lifeforms in a "Holy War". His words inspired the Deviants of the Skrull homeworld to rise up and slay the original Skrulls, taking their place. 25,000 years ago, Tantalus led forces to conquer the planet Tebbel. On Tebbel, he met the astronomer Khult, and his daughter Nirvana. When he attempted to slay Nirvana with his Black Legacy, he was shocked to find that she was immune, due to experiments that had made her genetically stable. For the sake of her planet, Nirvana agreed to become his bride, and he brought her back to Arqa, which he renamed "Armechadon" for her. For Nirvana's love, he conquered four more worlds, and on the eve of each conquest, she bore him a child. These four children included the genetically stable Pelops and Id, but the fourth child, Lucian, was born with a birthmark, which proved to be an inherited trait of Tantalus' Black Legacy. Nirvana killed herself in despair, but Tantalus placed her body within a field of Black Legacy, so that he could one day revive her. Tantalus then set off for Earth to conquer it, bringing Khult, his Peacekeepers, and his children with him. However, the Celestials exiled him to the Earth, and removed his capability of space travel. For many centuries, Tantalus continued his "Holy War" with humanity, conquering Pangea in the Savage Land, but was often opposed by the Underground Legion, which was secretly led by his son Pelops under the alias of Blackwulf. When Tantalus ultimately learnt of this, he slew Blackwulf with his Black Legacy and fed his remains to the Peacekeepers. When Tantalus learnt from a Deviant Skrull that a star-gate existed near Earth's sun which could permit him instantaneous travel to Armechadon, he led his people back to the planet, only to find that while he was gone, Khult had become the planet's ruler, secretly traveling there with a Transponder Portal. In final battle with the Underground Legion, Tantalus slew all but one of Touchstone's lives, and destroyed Mammoth's left arm, before being slain by his son Lucian, who had become Blackwulf II. In killing Tantalus with his own Black Legacy, Blackwulf II absorbed all of the Black Legacy energies of Tantalus, making himself ebon black. -Avengers#371, Thunderstrike#5-7, Blackwulf#1-2, 4, 6, 8-10

Thanos Son of Mentor and Sui-San, brother of Eros. Thanos is a Mutant Eternal, with purple skin and a ridged chin, plus more power than a typical Eternal of Titan, including energy blasts, psionic abilities, and teleportation. In his childhood, Thanos was tormented by the differences between himself and other children, and ultimately, when he first went to war with Titan, he dissected his mother so he could learn why he was different. Mentor covered up the dissection, claiming she had been killed in an explosion. Over time, Thanos came to worship Death, and has attempted to win her love on several occasions. His tactics thus far have included conquering the universe with the Cosmic Cube, snuffing out the stars with a synthetic soul gem, using the Infinity Gauntlet to wipe out half the universe's life, and other similiar quests for power. He also raised the child Gamora, and trained her to become the ultimate assassin. Thanos' chief foe, Adam Warlock, has occasionally sided with Thanos, against threats such as the Magus, Nebula, and the Goddess. Following the Infinity Gauntlet affair, he even entrusted the Reality Gem to Thanos. Despite his worship of Death, Thanos possesses a streak of honor, and has dared to double-cross entities as powerful as Mephisto. The woman Nebula claims to be Thanos' granddaughter, but he has yet to side either way with that claim. Though Thanos briefly became a more heroic man following the Infinity Gauntlet affair, he has since returned to his old ways, battling Ka-Zar and Thor. -Iron Man#55, Daredevil#105, Captain Marvel#25-33, Marvel Feature (v.1)#12, Avengers#125, Logan's Run#6, Warlock (v.1)#9-11, 15, Avengers Annual#7, Marvel Two-In-One Annual#2, Death of Captain Marvel, Thanos Quest#1-2, Silver Surfer#34-35, 38, 44-45, 47-50, 57, 59, Infinity Gauntlet#1-6, Quasar#24, 26, Dr. Strange (v.3)#33, Spider-Man#17, Infinity War#1-6, Warlock & the Infinity Watch#7-10, Quasar#38-39, 42, Fantastic Four#369-370, Wonder Man#14, Marvel Comics Presents#108-111, Quasar#59, Infinity Crusade#1-6, Silver Surfer#83-84, 88, 98, Cosmic Powers#1-3, 5-6, Cosmic Powers Unlimited#1, Warlock and the Infinity Watch#19-20, 25, 40-42, Warlock Chronicles#2, Captain Marvel (v.2)#5, Spider-Man Team-Up#2, Ka-Zar (v.4)#5-11, Ka-Zar '97 Annual, X-Man '98 Annual, X-Men '98 Annual, Deadpool#33, Thor 2000 Annual, Thor (v.2)#21-25, Captain Marvel (v.3)#17-19, Avengers: Celestial Quest#1-8, The Infinity Abyss#1-6, Marvel Universe: The End#1-6, Thanos#1-12

Thena Daughter of Zuras and Cybele. Thena was originally born under the name Azura, but Zuras had her name officially changed to resemble that of Zeus' daughter Athena, to seal the bond between their two peoples. Thena was often mistaken for Athena, and the city of Athens was built for her, although she later allowed it to be conquered by the Spartans in 404 B.C. 2,500 years ago, Thena first encountered Kro in Babylon. He had a chance to slay her, but did not. As the years passed, the two of them grew closer together, and she visited Lemuria at some point, though it was not a happy event. For a time after the Great Flood she feared that Kro had been killed. Thena and Kro made love during the Vietnam War, resulting in Thena becoming pregnant with twins. She placed them inside of Ms. Ritter, a infertile woman, who raised them as Donald and Deborah.

When Kro led his armies in an attack on New York, Thena fought him there, armed with a spear and crossbow that produced intense cold. After Kro was convinced to call a truce, Thena visited Lemuria with him, where he showed her Ransak, a Deviant who was genetically stable. Thena was convinced by the Mutate Karkas to grant both of them sanctuary, and the two Deviants have joined her on many missions. Karkas in particular feels an intense loyalty to her. After Zuras' death at the hands of the Celestials, and subsequent depature of most of earth's Eternals, Thena became Prime Eternal, but she was traumatized by her father's death, and was being subtely influenced by a Brain-Mine Kro had placed upon her. Ultimately, she turned against Ikaris to help save Kro's life, and Ikaris forced her to submit to the Hall of Eternal Judgement. There, she was forced to relinquish her title to Ikaris. When Thena learnt of the Brain-Mine, she was furious with Kro, but she has since forgiven him. Recently, Thena became involved with the development of her children, after Dr. Daniel Damian attempted to have them killed. Thena has sought sanctuary with Heroes For Hire and the High Evolutionary, with whom she presently resides. -Eternals (v.1)#5-6, 8-10, 12, Eternals Annual#1, Thor#285-289, 291-292, 301, What If (v.1)#29, Iron Man Annual#6, Iron Man#179, Avengers#246-248, Eternals (v.2)#1-2, 4-12, Silver Surfer Annual#1, Avengers#299, 308, 310, Eternals: The Herod Factor, Avengers#374-375, Starblast#1, Quasar#58, Fantastic Four Unlimited#10, Heroes For Hire#5-9, 11-13, 15-17, 19, Quicksilver#12, Heroes For Hire '98 Annual, New Eternals#1, X-Force#97. Thor first encountered the Polar Eternals before the 3rd Host, when Dromedan briefly seized control of his mind. After regaining control, Thor stayed with the Polar Eternals for a time, and aided them in their work in South America. However, Dromedan was later freed by Druig, and Thor opposed him alongside Ajak, Valkin and Virako. After the battle ceased, the 3rd Host arrived, and Valkin erased Thor's memory of the events, afraid of how Thor might react to the Celestials. Centuries later, Thor regained these memories from Mimir, prophecier to the gods. He then purposefully sought out the Celestials, Eternals and Deviants. During the course of these encounters, he managed to enter the City of the Space Gods and rescue an airplane held there, help defeat the Deviants in New Lemuria, defeat Hero aboard the Celestial Mothership, defeat the Deviant El Toro Rojo, and stand with the Eternals against the gods of Olympus and Odin. After all his fellow gods were slain by the 4th Host, Thor openly attacked them, but was not able to harm them, and was saved only by the intervention of Gaea, who placated the Celestials with the Young Gods. With Gaea's help, Thor was later able to resurrect his people. Since then, as a member of the Avengers, Thor has helped the Eternals and the Fantastic Four oppose the Dreaming Celestial, and contained the Dreamer's essence inside of the Vial after it briefly escaped. -Thor Annual#7, Thor#283-301, Eternals (v.2)#12, Fantastic Four#339-340
