The Atari
ST version of Civilization arrived on the scene in
1993. The Original Civilization game, now dubbed
Civilization I arrived on the scene back in
1991 selling 850,000 copies in record time. Later,
around 1995, a Multiplayer version called CivNet (also
available for MAC) appeared in 1995, a windows version
popped in 1994 but limited information is available
about this version. It's legacy is unmatched as it has
spawned the creation of 3 later versions and numerous
adaptations and successful spin-off games.

The game begins it's play in 3000
B.C., the dawn of Civilization. You can choose to play up
to seven civilizations spread across a random generated
map or a premade world (Earth). You begin as one
of the seven, and attempt to build up an empire
from a single settler. Throughout the game and over a
turn-based course of time, your actions in the game
determine the outcome based upon your military, political
and economic decisions. Your goals are to conquer the
world and eventually send a spaceship to Alpha
Centauri.
Note: Playable
maps and Scenarios were not included in the Atari
ST version. Numerous fans over the years who played
later versions of Civilization began to pine for these
extras and eventually
produced a number of files in the DOS version for play
through the creation of 3rd party freeware utilties.
CivDOS, CivWin, and CivNet maps are not compatible with
each other--nor are they compatible with Atari ST version
either.
This
emulator allows you to fire up that retail box of Civ you
bought years ago for your Atari ST on your XP or Linux
computer! Many users of newer computer systems
complain that they can not run their old software any
more. Well, with STEEM you can run Atari ST version of Civ
and that's all you really need in life! Of
course, with STEEM you can run all other Atari ST
programs too as a bonus! Thanks to Wil001 for the
tip!
