Mascotte
Withlacoochee State Forest--Citrus Section Terrain: Hilly and dry upland scrub. There are old logging and mining double-track roads and some single-track. Hunting: Open to hunting. To Get There: Take SR 50 towards Mascotte. Turn North on 469 and in Center Hill take 48 West to 476. Continue West on 476 and turn right on 581. From 581 you can turn left on 480 and enter the forest on forest roads #II, II-B, I3, or you may continue on 581 to the Mutual Mine entrance on the left. Like the Richloam Forest, this area offers little in the way of developed recreational opportunities and only sees heavy public use during hunting season. Unlike Richloam however, this area is high and dry and can be really hot during the summer. Exploring this location requires being prepared with plenty of water and snacks and beginners with think that biking is torture! There are numerous dirt roads, old mining roads and skid roads running throughout this forest. |
