St. Cloud

Prairie Lakes State Reserve

Terrain:  Flat pine woods and oak hammocks.  Limited hunting.  Call (407-436-1626) for information on hunting status.

To Get There:  From the Florida Turnpike head towards St. Cloud and exit on 192.  In St. Cloud turn right on Vermont Street which becomes Canoe Creek Road (SR 523).  Continue on Canoe Creek Road for approximately 25 miles and turn right into the entrance to Prairie Lakes 2 miles past the sign for Three Lakes Wildlife Management Area.

Prairie Lakes has some good trail and dirt road riding and is also home to the reintroduced whooping crane.  You can sometimes see the cranes in their chain link enclosure near the back of the reserve.  They will eventually be released into the wild after they are taught to fear predators by biologists disguised as wild cats!  This area can be too wet to ride at times but it is generally not as wet as the Bull Creek area.
