The
Original Civilization for Windows (CivWin, WinCiv): The
Game posted by CivPartisan at Wed, 23 August 2006

In 1994, a windows version
(CivWin, WinCiv) popped up but very little information is
available about this version. The Original Civilization
game, now dubbed Civilization I arrived on the scene back in
1991 with the 2.6 MB DOS game that started it all
and a later, around 1995, a Multiplayer version called
CivNet appeared. It's legacy is unmatched as it has
spawned the creation of 3 later versions and numerous
adaptations and successful spin-off games.
Additionally, WinCiv was known to be
sold and packaged with other games as sort of a dual
game set. From what is known, it was available on both 3.5"
disk and CDROM for Windows and MAC. This version did not
come with a map editor or scenario tools of any
kind.
System Requirements
- IBM/PC/XT/AT/Tandy and
most Compatibles
- Windows 3.1 or higher
- 640K Ram
- Mouse recommended
- Supports EGA/VGA/MCGA and
Tandy Graphics
- Supports IBM, Roland, Ad
Lib, Sound Blaster and Tandy Cards
The game begins it's play in 3000
B.C., the dawn of Civilization. You can choose to play up to
seven civilizations spread across a random generated map or
a premade world (Earth). You begin as one of the
seven, and attempt to build up an empire from a
single settler. Throughout the game and over a turn-based
course of time, your actions in the game determine the
outcome based upon your military, political and economic
decisions. Your goals are to conquer the world and
eventually send a spaceship to Alpha
Centauri.
Note: Playable
maps and Scenarios were not included in the WinCiv
version. Numerous fans over the years who played later
versions of Civilization began to pine for these extras in
the DOS version and eventually produced a number of files
for play through the creation of 3rd party freeware
utilties. However, utilities, maps, and save games for the
DOS version are not compatible with WinCiv.
Utilities, and *.sav files must be specific for WinCiv
to work.

TTG's Custom Manual
Simply a must-have if you do not have the manual for
the game. You can download this copy of TTG's manual and IMO
you've got a manual better than the one that came with your
disks.
TTG's Printable Manual
This version is somewhat smaller in lines but retains
the info that you will need for the game -- download this
one and save ink.
