With an early start I soon found myself through Sudbury and North Bay and soon there-after in Algonquin Provincial Park. First impressions....BEAUTIFUL!, and VERY commercial. How annoying that we have to pay for firewood here, Ontario seems to cash in on everything, not like Saskatchewan. Also every bit of information I try to get like where is the best place to go fishing for Musky, I get the same kinda response, “Buy this” or “buy that” to find out all you need to know. However the worst thing by far about this is that oddly enough there are no grills on the fire pits, these fire pits are LITERALLY pits, a ring of rocks mark the spot. It looks cool and rustic but I think it will be near impossible to cook Kraft Dinner on an open fire as I had planned. I can see food will be a big concern in the days to come as I had planned heavily on the ability to make one meal a day on the fire(KD, or Fish or whatever). I think ill be loosing weight on this trip and I REALLY dont need that...
Its 8pm and I sit here listening to the rain falling around me. I happily found a Nice camp site and set up camp before the rain started. But the rest of the day was a wash. Hopefully tomorrow will be nicer but the radio stations I can pick up dont sound too hopeful. LOTS of hiking to be done while im here in Algonquin, I just need some decent weather now to do it.
O YAH!!! One more thing, there is a humane bear trap set up about 3 campsites down the road from mine...that sure gives confidence to a person about how safe it is to be in a tent out here eh? But I hope it will be cool cause im a ways out on this peninsula at Mew Lake, I “should” be safe...I hope... |
