Day 10 Ont.

Saturday, July 3, 1999

Its actually Sunday morning but I was too tired yesterday to write in my journal then before bed. Yesterday started out gorgeous so I decided this would be the day that id do the Highland Trail. I ate breakfast ....~shivers~ o yah breakfast, breakfast was not good today... um i bought some milk yesterday and thinking it would be able to stay good merely one night i had some to drink last night and then saved the rest for morning cereal...so in the morning i get my Shreddies in the bowl and get my milk and look inside... i find i have cottage cheese in my milk jug that morning...now i had a long hike ahead of me that day and i didnt have time to waste so....into my bowl went the cottage cheese and well i ate my Shreddies that morning with warm, clumpy, spoiled milk...i wasnt impressed...though i was impressed that i kept it down!! :-)

So I was on the Highland Trail by 9 am. The trail was HARD in addition to being LOooooNG, it was called the Highland Trail with good reason. I took my time for the most part on the hike, but in the last hour the weather got bad and started to rain, this made me worry bout my camera cause I had no rain gear with me, also the rain stirred up ALL the mosquitoes and my repellent must have worn off cause they were ALL over me. So I was double timing it once the rain started, which is not safe on steep cliffs with wet rocks like i was going on. I made it back to the car safely though at just after 3pm...I hiked some 22 km’s yesterday in 6 hours! Actually it was probably closer to 25 km’s hiked with all the side trails I did added in to the total. I had to prove to myself that I could do this hike, and I did, but man it KILLED me. Worse yet it was raining that night and although I got the fire going for cooking my supper, I could not keep it going, unlike everyone else in the campground I didn’t have lighter fluid to keep my wet wood burning so I had no supper that night....

So I went to the pay phone and called up mom for something to do, she was umm upset at me being in bear country alone on my hike that day... and with good reason too. I just assured her though that if I am attacked by a bear that I would get some awesome! close-up pictures of it before it shredded me into a bunch of tiny pieces....oddly enough she didn’t see the humor in that hehe ;-).

Then I went over and bugged Emily for a bit. apparently her BF was jealous bout her talking to me so she probably wont be able to go for a hike after all, o well that wont stop me from going out. I have one more hike to go on and im DONE! But not today im still hiked out from yesterday...
