Day 22 Ont.

Thursday, July 15, 1999

At a very relaxed pace I got up and hit the road after breakfast. I decided as I drove that I would take an alternate way to get to Kenora, this highway would take longer but it would follow the very well know and scenic Lake Of the Woods eastern shoreline.

It was mostly a nice drive but around the southern end of the Lake Of the Woods I hit a storm during which the hail and rain was so heavy that I had no choice but to pull over and wait it out a bit. I later found out that it was good that I did stop and not drive into Kenora quickly cause it was ground Zero for a tornado that touched down there while I was pulled over. As it turned out it was also lucky that I took this longer highway rather then the short one to Kenora...I would have been in Kenora right when the tornado was touching down. But as I did take the longer route I came into Kenora and saw the mess that was left after the tornado only, there was no houses taken out that I know of but trees were down everywhere from the high winds...its odd but i never really thought Ontario got many tornados...

I pulled in late and camped the night at a great park called Rushing River Provincial Park. I came to the conclusion after touring around it that this would be a FANTASTIC park to bring a young family too, it just had a very family orientated set-up to it.

By tomorrow night Ontario will be behind me...

Sunrise over a misty Lake Superior. All four of these photos were up to 3 second exposures, it was a challenge to do them free hand with out a tripod for stability
