| Hat shaped Towel Topper Created by Tammy (Tam) Cummings in 2000 Size H crochet Hook 1 skein color to match towel (will make two towel toppers) 1 towel cut in half - You might want to sew across the cut area, I do not usually do this, the crochet sts are close enough together for me to prevent fraying Stitches used: sc, sl st, afghan stitch Notes: Turn only when the instructions say to turn. decrease – I decreased in this pattern when I took the loops off of the hook. Yarn over pull through 3 loops. Row 1: With wrong side facing you, 53 sc evenly across top of towel, turn Note from here on you will be working the afghan stitch. Row 2: keeping last loop on hook from previous row, pull up loops in the back loops of the sc across, work off loops. 52 sts Row 3: work even using the afghan stitch, 52 sts Rows 4 – 6: Decrease these rows by 2 sts (1 decrease at each end of the row). Rows 7 – 10: Decrease these rows by 4 sts (2 decreases at each end of the row). Rows 11 – 12: Decrease by 6 sts (3 decreases at each end of the row). Row 13: Decrease by 4 sts (2 decreases at each end of the row), 7 sts Rows 14 – 27: Work even, 7 sts. Row 28: Pull up loops for 1st 3 stitches, ch 1 skip 1 st, pull up loops for remaining 3 stitches. Work off loops, this leaves a hole for the button to go through, 6 sts. Row 29 & 30: work even, 6 sts. Row 31: decrease to 3 sts. Row 32: decrease to 1 st, fasten off. Brim: To start: Attach yarn to front loops of beginning row with wrong side facing you. Pull up loops in front loops across. Row 1 – 3: work the afghan stitch across evenly, 52 sts. Fasten off after 3 rows. Allow this brim to roll up or fold up to form the brim of the hat, this will also cover the top of the towel to hide the joining row. Weave in loose ends. Attach a button to the handle, fold and button up. Optional: Make a matching pom pom and attach to the folded handle just bellow the button hole. This is not shown in the photo, I ran out of yarn. |
