Sweat Jacket Edging

My daughter loves this shirt now that I added the trim.  Next one will be fancier.
The one in the photo is my first try, the pattern below calls for lowering the neckline so it will look better.

Materials:  Old or new sweatshirt
Lustersheen
Size F hook or size needed

You can use a new or old sweatshirt for this project.  My 1st one I used was a stained old white sweatshirt.  If you use a brand new one, make sure to wash and dry before starting.  Very important.

Step 1:  Smoothly cut off teh cuffs, collar and waistband of shirt, see diagram.  If there is a picture on the front that you want to keep, turn it over and make the back the front by removing the size tag.  You will need to cut up what will be the front of the jacket, you will need to cut out about 1/2 inch and round the top collar.  See diagram above.

Step 2:  You have 2 options 1 - you can sew around the cut edges and work the first row into the sewing or 2 you can use a sharp object to poke one or two holes ahead and crochet right into the martial.  The material will roll up slightly under the stitches so you don't have to worry about fraying.  I like the 2nd option even though it gets tiring at times.

Row 1 - join yarn with slip stitch ( I usually start at the center back), ch 1 sc in same st as joining, ch 1, sc in next spot, continue around and join with sl st to first ch 1.  Keep stitches close together, too far apart and the material won't roll

Row 2 - ch 2, do not turn, dc in same st, 2 dc in each stitch around except corners, in corners put 3 dcs, join with sl st to top of beginning ch2.

Cuffs - start out the same as above but add the following rows

Row 3 - Repeat row 2
Row 4 - 5:  Ch 1, sc in same st, sc in each st around.  At end of row 5 fasten off.  Weave in loose ends.
