| Sun Flower Afghan Created By Tam Cummings in 2000 ww yarn - 3 (8oz skeins) dark brown & Dark Green, bright yellow Size Q hook - yarn needle for weaving in ends Work with 3 strands of yarn. Do not turn work unless the directions call for it. Afghan Brown circle center - make 2 With brown ch 4, sl st to form ring. Rnd 1 - Ch 3, 15 dc in ring, sl st to top of ch 3 (16 sts counting ch 3) Rnd 2 - Ch 3, *2 dc in next st, dc in next st, repeat from * around 2 dc in last st, sl st to top of ch 3 (24 sts counting ch3) Rnd 3 - Ch 1, sc in same st as joining st and in next st, 2 sc in next st, * sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next sc, repeat from * around. Sl st to beg sc. Fasten off brown. (32 sts not counting ch1) Petals - working with 2 brown circles, wrong sides together. Rnd 4 - join yellow with sl st in any stitch working through stitches on both circles. Ch 2, * 2 hdc in next st, hdc in next st, repeat from* (end with 2 hdc in last st) around. Sl st to beg ch 2 (48 sts counting ch 2) Rnd 5 (Part One)- This round you will be working in the back loop of the sc in the previous row. Ch 4, hold back last loop of each tr stitch on hook, tr in next 3 sts, yo and draw through all 4 loops on hook, this forms the first petal. *Chain 5 work 4 tr over the next 4 sts keeping the last loop on hook then yo and draw through all 4 loops on hook, this forms another petal repeat from * around ending with ch 5 and sl st to top of ch 3. Fasten off yellow. Rnd 5 (Part Two) - Work in the front loop of the sc in previous round. Join yellow in back loop of sc skipping the first two stitches (this will line up with a third st if looking at the first petals made. Repeat part one of Rnd 5 only working in the front loops instead- This will put the petals between the others when laying flat. Fasten off yellow. Rnd 6 - You will be working in the ch sts of both sets of the petals. Join Green with sl st. in any chain spot, working both layers together, this will create a 3-d effect for the petals. Chain 1, 3 sc in each space between petals. Be sure to hold both layers together when working. (24 sets of 3 sc) Rnd 7 - Ch 4 (counts as tr) working in each st around, dc, hdc; * sc, sl st in next 10 stitches, sc hdc, dc, tr, ch 1, tr, dc, hdc*; rep between ** 2 more times, 1sc, 10 sl sts, sc, hdc, dc, tr, ch 1, sl st to top of beg ch 4. Rnd 8 - 18 Chain 3 *dc in all st across to ch3 spot, make a corner by dc, ch 1, dc in chain 3 spot* repeat around, ending with dc in last st before 1st ch 3. Join with sl st to top of ch 3. At end of rnd 18 fasten off green. Rnd 19- 20 - Join Brown with sl st. Ch 1, hdc in same st as joining st *hdc across to corner, make corner hdc, ch1, hdc in ch 3 spot repeat from * around ending with hdc in last st. sl st to top of 1st hdc in rnd. At the end of rnd 20 fasten off brown. Rnd 21 – Join yellow in back loop of any hdc, ch 4, work in the back loops this round, hold back last loop of each dc stitch on hook, dc in next 3 sts, yo and draw through all loops on hook, this forms the first petal. *Chain 4 work 4 dc over the next 4 sts keeping the last loop on hook then yo and draw through all loops on hook, this forms another petal repeat from * around ending with ch 4 and sl st to top of ch 3. Fasten off yellow. Rnd 22 (Part Two) - You will be working in the front loop of the hdc in previous row! Join yellow in hdc front loop lined up with the 3rd hdc of a petal already done in back loops, repeat the same as rnd 21. Rnd 23 – working both yellow layers together, join green in a chain spot ch 1, 3 sc in between each petal, around. Join with sl st to beginning sc of rnd. Rnd 24 - Join green with sl st. Ch 1, hdc in same st as joining st *hdc across to corner, make corner hdc, ch1, hdc in ch 3 spot repeat from * around ending with hdc in last st. sl st to top of 1st hdc in rnd. at end of rnd fasten off. Weave in loose ends. |
