"You always were a cunning linguist, James..." - Ms Moneypenny, to Commander Bond, 'Goldeneye'.

These are a few resources I've come up with to help teach AS Language for the AQA 'B' syllabus. They might be useful if you're doing the same (or a similar) spec. Some are, I must say, not utterly brilliant. But hey..! - Huw.

Parts of Speech/Grammar Sheet 1 - Nouns/Articles - notes + text extract for kids to underline nouns etc. This isn't fantastic - I nicked most of the text from another source, and it's a bit stodgy (stylistically).

Parts of Speech/Grammar Sheet 2 - Pronouns - as above.

Parts of Speech/Grammar Sheet 3 - Verbs - as above.

Parts of Speech/Grammar Sheet 4 - Adjectives/Adverbs - as above.

Parts of Speech/Grammar Sheet 5 - Conjunctions/Prepositions - as above. Needs a text extract (mine wasn't very good).

Parts of Speech/Grammar Sheet 6 - Summary sheet. Could do with re-formatting.

What is Semantics..? Sheet 1 - Brief introduction.

Semantics : Sheet 2 - Denotation and Connotation - see above.

Semantics : Sheet 3 - Implication and Ambiguity - see above.

Semantics : Sheet 4 - Metaphor, Similie and Symbol - see above.

Semantics : Sheet 5 - Semantic Fields - see above.

Semantics : Sheet 6 - Synonym, Antonym, Hyponym - see above.

Polari Dictionary - Very good for teaching sociolect.

Connotations Exercise - Quite simple, quite good fun.

Another Connotations Exercise - This one looks at the connotations of band names...

Answer sheet for the above - ...not that you'd need it - not a sophisticate like you..!

Graphology Worksheet - Quite simple, quite good fun.

Etymology Worksheet - Uses biblical extracts to provoke discussion re. language change.

Etymology Worksheet - ANSWERS - ...for Teach. You, that is.

Changes In English Handout - Notes, generally quite good, and blagged from somewhere else.

A Terminology for Language Analysis - Blagged from somewhere on the net, but quite good.

Terminology for AS Language - Another glossary of terms... all good stuff...

Etymology Quiz - Multiple Choice Worksheet - kids to test how much they already know, as well as what they can research...

Etymology Quiz - With Answers - For y'self, so you don't look thick.
