Am trying to determine if a Jonathan Edgar shown in the land records of about 1820 was from Philadephia, Pa., or Philadelphia, Ga. (assuming there was a community in Ga. by that name, since a Philadelphia Methodist Church is listed). Can anyone help me either with the Edgar family line or if there was a Philadelphia community? Thanks. Please respond at docnhim@gulfsurf.infi.net Frankie

Looking for information about the SHIPLEY family who lived in Rockdale County from 1830 through 1885. George Shipley was the father of John S. Shipley, Charlotte Shipley, Raleigh, William T., George Jr., Elizabeth, Hezekiah and Eliza Ann. George Shipley Sr. was living in the 1860 census, gone by 1870. I do not have his death date and would like to know it. I also do not know where GEORGE was born or who his parents were. Any info would be helpful to me. John S. Shipley was my g-g-grandfather. He married Mary Keziah ARMISTEAD of Newton County, and their elder daughter, Sallie Emily, was my great-grandmother. Would like to know more about JOHN S. and SALLIE EMILY. Thank you for any information you can give me.

Was there a community called PHILADELPHIA in ROCKDALE COUNTY in the early 1800's? I am wondering if this how Philadelphia Methodist Church got it's name. Am researching someone from Philadephia and not sure if the record means Georgia or Pennsylvania.

I'm researching the William (son John Henry Wells m Margaret Charity Oliver); Littleton Long (daugher Eliza Jane m John Alexander Wells); Samuel Oliver and John Newsome families who lived in Newton before it became Rockdale and Walton Counties during the 1800's. Some names associated with the John Henry Wells family, spouses of sisters and daughters were: Harris; Henderson & Hall; Blake Blankenship; Lard; Reagan; Dial; Butler; Ragan; McDuffy. There is a possible connection between the William Wells and Joseph Wells families. The Newsome family moved to Gwinnett and are associated with: Guess (or Guest); White; Ford. Thanks.
