Born To Hang

THE RIDERS TRY TO HELP STAGECOACH SALLY BRING THE GOLD FOR THE FREEDOM TRAIN...

In Saddle Falls, Jimmy encounters Noah, a free born black man who saves a mother and son from slavery by buying them and setting them free. As he signs over their freedom, he is reminded of his own childhood. His father was hanged by slavers and Noah and the woman who cared for him barely escaped. Since then Noah has been angry with the world.

Back in Sweetwater, Kid, Cody and Teaspoon discuss Sam and Emma. They were married and moved out of town because Sam recently was named Territorial Marshal. They have been in search of a new housekeeper since.

Noah has a run in with the slaver whom he bought the woman and child from. Jimmy comes to his aid and is wounded. Afterward, he warns Noah that if he keeps asking for trouble he's going to end up dead. Noah responds that he was born to hang.

Teaspoon is having trouble finding a new housekeeper. His applicants range from a tyrannical German haus frau to a napping granny. Lou, however, is most affected by Emma's absence. Kid tries to talk to her and she tells him that with Emma gone, she has no one to share her problems with. Kid offers to take them on. Lou explains that he wouldn't understand because sometimes he is the problem.

Noah meets up with his former nanny, Stagecoach Sally. Sally confides in Noah that she's hauling "black gold" to Sweetwater and gives both Jimmy and Noah a ride there. Sally tells Noah that she and some runaway slaves are going on the Freedom Train, which will take them to a ship bound for Africa. She is supposed to meet the wagon master in Sweetwater to give him the gold to lead the train. The gold is from Southerners enthusiastic about getting rid of free blacks.

On the way, the stage is ambushed by the slaver and his gang, who is after the gold Sally is hauling, as well as revenge against Noah. Though Sally is wounded, the slavers do not find the gold. But Sally reveals that she was also transporting Benjamin, a young runaway slave.

After the group arrives in Sweetwater, Noah agrees to sub for Jimmy while he heals up and Sally takes over the cooking for a night. Over dinner, Noah accuses Sally of running away from the fight facing free blacks. She accuses him of not being able to see when running away is the only thing to do. Sally reminds him that his father died because of it. Sally goes into town to give meet the wagon master. She is surprised by the slavers and murdered before they find out where the gold is.

Benjamin tells Noah, Kid, and Lou Sally hid the gold in the barn. They find it and head to where the wagon train is camped, determined to make Sally's dream come true. They overpower the slavers -- though the leader escapes -- and the Freedom Train is able to move closer to its destination.

Teaspoon, in the meantime, has hired a new cook. Rachel Dunne, a voluptuous blonde, who makes the boys drool over more than her cooking. Teaspoon warns the boys to take it easy because she's limping from a recent fall of a horse. Noah also agrees to stay on. While the boys ruminate over their new housekeeper, Rachel is in the shed removing shackles from her ankles.

CAST CHANGE: Two beloved characters are gone, two new ones are added. Sam and Emma were married off during the summer hiatus.
