Pride And Prejudice BUCK FINALLY REALIZES THE REASON BEHIND TOMPKINS HATRED OF INDIANS AFTER HE HELPS AN ARMY RESCUE LAKOTA CAPTIVES... Buck leads an army squad in rescuing Lakota captives. They arrive in
the Lakota village to find captives from recent Indian attacks, as well
as those from an attack which happened years ago. They also find most of
the men to be out hunting. The soldiers are nervous and one opens fire
on the Lakota women and children despite Buck's pleas for them to stop.
The whole village is almost wiped out. On the way back to town, Buck discovers a mother and her daughter who had been captured by the Lakota seven years ago. He realizes that they are Tompkins' wife, Sally and his daughter, Jennifer. He takes them to Tompkins, who turns his back on them when he discovers Sally has had a son with the Lakota chief. The Lakota arrive at their village to find most of the women and children dead and the captives gone. The chief gives an ultimatum to the Army: either return the captives or the Lakota will wage war on the nearest town -- Sweetwater. As Sally goes to speak to her husband, Jennifer tries to run away. She is angry that Tompkins never even tried to look for them and angry for being taken away from the Lakota. Buck does his best to comfort her. Sally tries to explain that she thought Tompkins was dead, so she tried to go on with her life as best she could. Tompkins is angry that she gave herself to an Indian. Sally is shocked that, after years of thinking she was dead, that would be all he cared about.
On the way there, they find April and her husband dead from arrow wounds. Jennifer recognizes the arrows are from the warrior she was promised to. As they ride into the camp, they meet up with the warrior who challenges Buck to a fight over Jennifer. Buck defeats him but does not kill him. In a rage over Jennifer's rejection, he points a rifle at her and fires. Sally blocks the bullet with her body and is killed. The Lakota chief tells Jennifer to take her mother and return to the white world where they have always belonged. He takes his son to be raised as a Lakota. On their way back to town, they meet Tompkins. Seeing Sally's body, he realizes how wrong he was. Jennifer chooses not to live with his father and leaves Sweetwater.
