LOU IS DEVASTATED WHEN KID IS ATTRACTED TO ANOTHER WOMAN...

Kid saves two women from robbers. In return, the women introduced themselves. The younger one is Samantha, who tells the Kid that she is the Sweetwater's new schoolteacher. Martha is Samantha's companion. Kid, who is a little smitten with Samantha, accompanies the newcomers to town, where he is seen by his fellow riders. They tease him about it. Noah asks if he isn't rushing things considering he just broke up with Lou. Kid replies that maybe things weren't meant to be between him and the female rider. Unfortunately, Lou hears this exchange.

Teaspoon assigns a special run to Lou and tells her that Jimmy is coming along as second gun. Later that night, Jimmy tries to comfort a weeping Lou, assuring her that Kid didn't mean what he said. But Lou is inconsolable and cries herself to sleep. Another disappointment hits Lou when they reach Willow Springs. The bank notes are late and they have to stay another day. On the bright side, there's a circus in town. Because the hotel is full, she and Jimmy share one room (though she gets the bed). In an attempt to cheer her up, Jimmy buys Lou a dress and takes her out to dinner. On their way to the circus, they pass by a man who is playing a trumpet. Lou and Jimmy dance in the middle of the deserted street.

Back in Sweetwater, Samantha sees a man she knows. His name is Robert and it seems he and Samantha have a past. Meanwhile, Kid tries to impress Samantha by fixing her house. He also asks her out to a town dance. But during the dance, Robert -- who tries to convince Samantha to marry him -- knocks Martha down. Furious, Kid confronts the Southern gentleman, who then calls Kid out to a duel.

Jimmy and Lou are enjoying themselves in Willow Springs. They go to the circus where Lou is asked to participate in a magic trick. Lou disappears for real, though, kidnapped by one of Hickok's numerous ghosts. The man, a former gunslinger, was shot by Jimmy some years back and because of that he lost his job. He wants revenge and hopes holding Lou captive will even things up for him. But the man underestimates Jimmy's capabilities and desire to save Lou, so he ends up dead.

Teaspoon arrives just in time to stop the duel between Kid and Robert. Martha finally speaks up and tells Robert why he can't marry Samantha. Martha was a slave in Robert's household years ago. They fell in love and when Robert's parents found out, they banished the pregnant Martha. Samantha was the child Martha was carrying, Samantha is Robert's child. In despair, Robert aims at Kid but Teaspoon shoots first, killing him.
FROM THE STATIONMISTRESS: I wasn't completely satisfied with the ending of this particular episode and I know there are a lot out there who share my disappointment. I wrote a tag to this episode, called Three of Hearts, and it can be found in the PONY TALES section.
