NOAH'S ATTEMPT TO SAVE HIS BELOVED TEACHER LANDS HIM INSIDE A SLAVE TRADERS CAMP...
Noah is about to make a run when Teaspoon arrives and asks him to stay. Apparently, things are heating up in the Missouri and Noah's run takes him straight through the slave state. Worried that Noah's life may be endangered by the assignment, Teaspoon asks Jimmy to ride instead. Furious, Noah leaves the station.
In a distant town, a parish of black people are gathered, listening to
the Gospel. At the end of the sermon, their minister asks the free men
to take care of some runaway slaves. The people say no, however, frightened
that slave gangs would kill them. Noah's old teacher Jerico Taylor disagrees
with the people and reminds them of the hardships they suffered when they,
too, were slaves. The people were about to change their mind and take in
the runaway slaves when the slave gang arrives and takes everybody prisoner,
including Mr. Taylor.
Noah catches up with Jimmy on the latter's way to Missouri. He tells his friend that he is actually going to Markham Parish in Kansas, where he sold his daddy's silver saddle. When they arrive in Kansas, however, Noah finds his daddy's saddle gone and his beloved teacher abducted by the slave gang. Jimmy finds out it is the main prize in a poker game.
Jimmy returns to Sweetwater but doesn't find Noah there. he tells the rest of the gang about Noah's saddle. Rachel asks Lou to accompany her to Saddle Falls where she could join the poker game. Jimmy and Kid, on the other hand, return to Kansas to look for Noah. When Rachel and Lou reach Saddle Falls, they find out that the poker tournament is over but Rachel knows the man who won the saddle and Rachel engages him in a game.
Noah finds the captured men and tries to free his teacher. But his teacher doesn't want to leave unless they can save the others, too. In the end, Noah gets caught. Barnes, the man he tangled with several months back (in the episode Born To Hang), recognizes Noah and gives him a hard time.
Jimmy and Kid arrive at the slave camp. Kid decides to take a job with Barnes, while Jimmy goes to Fort Leavenworth to ask the vigilance committee's help.
