TEASPOON FINALLY DISCOVERS LOU'S TRUE IDENTITY, WHILE GHOSTS FROM RACHEL'S PAST THREATEN HER NEW-FOUND FREEDOM...

The boys are adjusting to life with their new housekeeper, Rachel. However, Lou is far less accepting of her and Rachel confronts her. Lou admits that she is jealous of the attention the riders are paying to Rachel. Rachel requests that Lou give her a chance, though she could never replace Emma, she hopes Lou will come to see her as a friend.

While hanging sheets to dry, Rachel has a flashback to a time shortly before she arrived in Sweetwater. She and her husband, Henry Dunne, were awaiting the birth of their first child. A man Rachel had been previously involved with, Thad Browning, rode up to their property with his brothers and killed her husband. Rachel ended up killing one of the brothers before they rode away. Shortly after, she lost her child. Overcome by the memories, Rachel rushes inside her house. Lou sees her distress, though.

Later that night, Lou goes to Rachel's place to check on her. Rachel explains she was crying over some old memories, voices from the past. Lou explains that she was hearing voices, too -- coming from the boys in the bunkhouse. Rachel reassures her that once the boys get used to her and their glands stop acting up, they'll stop treating her differently. Lou tells Rachel she'd be honored if they could become friends.

Meanwhile, in Harmony, New Mexico, an enemy from Teaspoon's past discovers he's marshal of Sweetwater. He and his vicious dog set off to find him. Jimmy attempts to get Teaspoon to reveal why he took over for Sam, and questions the notches he sees on Teaspoon's gun. Teaspoon explains they're nothing more than ghosts.

Lou is enjoying herself at the swimming hole, cooling off on a hot day. The boys are waiting for her to finish some distance away. Teaspoon comes around the corner and jumps in, despite Lou's attempts to get him to go away. Ignoring her protests, Teaspoon starts a water fight. The boys come running after hearing Lou's screams. They arrive just in time to see Teaspoon give Lou a "good old-fashioned alley-hoop" -- effectively ending her charade as a boy.

Teaspoon rounds up all the riders into the sweatlodge. Lou explains that she would lose her job if Teaspoon knew she was a girl. Teaspoon lets her know that she is one of the best riders in the outfit and that she has proven herself enough. He lets her stay.

The sheriff of Blue Creek comes to town looking for Rachel. He claims she murdered a man and escaped from custody. Teaspoon returns to the waystation to hear Rachel's side. She explains that she killed the Browning brother after Thad murdered her husband. She also tells Teaspoon that Blue Creek -- including the law -- is owned by the Brownings. Teaspoon tells her to run. He also writes a statement that -- if signed by Ethan, the one Browning sympathetic to Rachel and a witness to the crime -- would clear Rachel of the murder charge.

Kid and Lou aid Rachel in escaping the sheriff's posse and tracking down Ethan Browning. After a shoot-out with the remaining Brownings, Rachel is cleared of all charges. She agrees to stay on with the Express -- provided she be treated with dignity and respect by the boys. The man in search of Teaspoon arrives and calls him out. He blames Teaspoon for his disfigurement. Teaspoon kills the man, adding another notch to his gun and another ghost to his conscience.
IN THEIR WORDS: Teaspoon, after discovering Lou's secret, asks: How did this happen?
Lou: Been like this since birth!
