Butz is probably classified as the main character of Final Fantasy 5. He starts off as a camper with his Chocobo when he hears a meteor crash. He finds that there is a girl named Lenna injured and being attacked by monsters. Butz then saves Lenna. He then finds another injured man named Galuf, who now has amnesia from the concusion. Butz has a hidden childhood which is learned about later in the game.

Lenna is found by Butz near a meteor crash site after she went searching for her father. Unsuccessfully, she is attacked by monsters and then begins her journey to find her father and later learns about the crystals that each hold special power.

Galuf is found near a crashed meteor and awakens forgetting his name. He has amnesia, and doesn't remember anything at all, and decides to join Butz and Lenna on their quest to protect the crystals and help find Lenna's father.

Faris was raised by pirates, and later became captain of the ship. Faris is friends with a large sea dragon and they have helped each other out several times in their past. Not very much is known about Faris' secret past.
