Xenogears Review
Xenogears was one of Square's good games, but didn't make that big of a splash in North America. It seems as if Xenogears has one of those "Either you like it or you don't" things. Well guess what? I loved it. Xenogears had a rich storyline, and was well thought and innovative.

Some may disagree, while others may aprove of my opinion. Xenogears is probably the Squaresoft game with the most complicated storyline to known to man. Perhaps it wasn't THAT complicated, but it definately had a lot going on at once, as well as several events not coming clear to the end. Speaking of storyline, Xenogears has a long one. This meaning there is enough text to fill up The Lord of the Rings. This means that if you hate games that involve plenty of reading and understanding, this may not be the game for you.

Visually, Xenogears has pretty good graphics - if you enjoy those 2D sprites moving on a 3D world. Just think of it as the opposite of Final Fantasy VII and VIII. It really isn't that bad, because you have control over the camera angle. The FMV (Full Motion Video) contains a great combination of both Anime and CG.

The music... It was actually pretty good. There was a large variety of tunes, ranging from the sad type to the really upbeat and intense music. The boss music was good, because it was original and had "sound effects." There isn't much more to mention about the sound.

By mentioning innovative and well thought, I could say that this applies to North America. Gears are what take control in Xenogears. These Gears aren't seen much in North America, but are quite common in Japanese video games and anime. The Gears represent a whole new battle system in Xenogears, one which may take some getting used to. I thought that the combo system was really quite great, but one there was one thing that really bugged me. Some of your characters don't get weapons. I know I may be picky, but it just really dissapointed me to not get weapons.

I guess this RPG could be said to be one of Squaresoft's greater game, but once again, only in the eyes of some. Still, it has been one of my favorites.
