Gymnastics belt loops
Remember the belt loops are for the scout doing their best to learn about the sport or academic activity, and by putting the new techniques to practice with fellow scouts, in their community, or working with an adult. No specific requirements are usually listed in the booklets. The check list is only a guide.
WARNING: It is highly recommended that you participate in an approved gymnastics program at a gymnastics center such as YMCAs, high schools, or private gymnastic centers. Although there is risk involved in gymnastics, with the proper guidance and supervision, this need not be a deterrent.
To earn the belt loop:
_____1. Understand and follow proper safety rules.
_____2. Visit a gymnastics center and observe their program.
_____3. Become prepared for a gymnastics program through proper physical conditioning.
_____4. Determine your dominant side.
_____5. Learn and demonstrate the following:
__ forward roll __ backward roll __ headstand __ handstand __ scale __ cartwheel __ round off
_____6. At an approved facility learn and practice the following skills on the pommel horse.
__ stride mount __ single-leg travel __ straddle swings __ stride swings __ rear-cut dismount
_____7. Learn and practice the following skills on the still rings.
__ pull-to-L-hold __ swing-to-inverted hang __ pike-to-cast-swing __ tuck-to-flyaway dismount
_____8. Learn how to do a basic vault on the vaulting horse.
_____9. Learn and practice the following skills on the parallel bars.
__ straddled front upraise __ support swing backward-forward __ straddled back stutz __L-support
__ swing rear dismount
_____10. Learn and practice the following skills on the horizontal bar.
__ inverted straddled stalder __ swing-to-tucked pullover __ cast to back hip circle __ single-leg knee swing
__ half turn over the bar __ pike and cast-off bar
_____11. Demonstrate good sportsmanship while participating in this sport.
I certify that ___________________________ has completed the minimum requirements to receive the belt loop.
