Skating belt loops
Remember the belt loops are for the scout doing their best to learn about the sport or academic activity, and by putting the new techniques to practice with fellow scouts, in their community, or working with an adult. No specific requirements are usually listed in the booklets. The check list is only a guide.
To earn the belt loop:
_____1. Identify the parts of a roller skate and an ice skate.
_____2. Demonstrate how to put on skates and how to tell if they fit properly.
_____3. Know safety and courtesy rules for both roller and ice skating.
_____4. Choose either roller or ice skating:
4a. Learn and practice the following in roller skating:
__ how to stop __ how to fall __ how to get up __ forward scissors __ forward stroking
__ crossover __ squat skate
4b. Learn and practice the following in ice skating:
__ forward swizzles __ two-foot glide __ one-foot glide __ backward swizzles __ backward wiggle
__ forward stroking __ how to stop
_____5. Demonstrate good sportsmanship while participating in this sport.
