Skating belt loops
Remember the belt loops are for the scout doing their best to learn about the sport or academic activity, and by putting the new techniques to practice with fellow scouts, in their community, or working with an adult. No specific requirements are usually listed in the booklets. The check list is only a guide.
This belt loop is for snow skiing. Water skiing is not a sanctioned BSA sport.
To earn the belt loop:
_____1. List the equipment needed for the sport.
_____2. Know the safety and courtesy codes for skiing (downhill and cross-country).
_____3. Demonstrate the following:
__ carrying skis __ how to enter a ski lift (downhill skiing) __ identify trail markings
Choose either downhill skiing or cross country skiing. (Remember judge your boy on "doing his best," not proficiency.)
_____4. Learn and practice downhill skiing.
__ pushing off __ turning __ stopping __ getting up after a fall __ basic Christie
______5. Learn and practice cross-country skiing.
__ kick turn __ diagonal stride __ double pole __ sidestep __ sidestep __ step turn __ snowplow
_____6. Demonstrate good sportsmanship while participating in this sport.
