Quilts from the New York Sewer!

LeMoyne Star

LeMoyne Star This is the second quilt that I made. High on the completion of my first quilt, I made this one imediately after the first. By this time, I had discover the whole rotary cutting system, and I used a special angled ruler to cut the diamonds. This quilt was bigger than the first, it was a queen size. It took me two weeks to make. I used machine piecing, and tied the layers together with pearl cotton embroidery floss in matching colors. I think I also machine-tacked the layers together.

I used a darker fabric for the cornerstones of the sashing, which gives this top a little pizazz! I think the colors came out pretty good. At this point in my quilting 'career' I played it pretty safe and made quilts with few colors on a light background.

I used a big puffy batting, just like my first quilt. I don't recommend this if you are going to machine quilt, and if you tie it, you should do it about every 4-5 inches. I tied about 12 inches apart, and I can only imagine the condition this quilt is in! It was a gift, and I haven't seen the quilt since giving it away.
