Hearts Wallhanging

This quilt is machine
pieced, machine appliqued, and machine stipple-quilted.
Each heart is made up
of a 4x4 checkerboard and the top "bumps" that make the heart shape. I used the fusible applique method where you sew fusible
interfacing to the right side of the fabric, then flip it right side out, and fuse the applique to the background fabric.
I then used my sewing machine's blanket stitch, or applique stitch, to stitch each heart in place. Once the top was appliqued, I
layerd the quilt with Hobbs Heirloom cotton batting and a backing. I straight stitched
around each heart and in the border.
I stippled
quilted the background heavily! This took a lot of time, and my back was killing me! My stitches are not quite perfect, but it was
the first time I had tried this technique, and it won't be the last.
This wall hanging goes nicely in the bedroom with my Double Nine Patch quilt.
