Halloween Quilt
I machine pieced this quilt, and machine quilted it using a polyester batting. I basted it with a basting gun, which I like to use with a poly batting (with a cotton I prefer to spray baste) I used Mountain Mist Quality Quilt Batting, which, while still being a thin batting, is noticeably thicker than MM Quilt Lite. At first I thought I would run into problems fitting the quilt in the arm of my machine, but it smushed up nicely and I had no problem at all! And the quilt is just slightly puffy. I machine stitched in all the seams, and then I did some major diagonal stitching. This quilt was all about fabric, so no fancy machine quilting here to compete! I also did some channel quilting in the borders - perpendicular lines all around the border. It is machine bound in a contrasting orange fabric. This quilt is a lot of fun! And even though it was supposed to be just a Halloween quilt, I have been told that it is not to be put away after the holiday!!
Here is the edge flipped over, so you can see the backing, with the nicely contrasting binding (the same fabric in a different colorway), and of course a better shot at the quilting due to the contrasting thread.
Here is a super closeup so you can see my awesome machine binding! Heh heh, really though I am very proud, I have been getting better bit by bit at making a nice neat binding attached entirely by machine - I hate hand sewing a binding. In garment-sewing a binding is typically done all by machine, so I'm not really clear on why it is frowned upon in quiltmaking.
