Star Baby Quilt
I made this quilt for my nephew, Alex. I gave it to him (his mom) at the baby shower, so that would be in
the beginning of...1996. I "fussy-cut" the centers of the stars so that there would be a sheep in the field of
each star. The points of the stars are in a gingham, and the background is a pale blue. It was very
thin fabric, it might have been batiste, so it was very soft. I staggered the star blocks with solid
blue blocks. For some reason, I thought it would be neat to piece star blocks out of the background fabric
too, so that the star design would subtley continue in the solid blocks. So, those "plain" light blue
blocks were actually just as much work as the multicolored blocks! I machine quilted this one "in the ditch"
for all seams, so all that piecing didn't make any difference, the star design would have showed up in the quilting
process anyway. It was still a fun quilt to make. The quilting turned out pretty good,
considering that I am REALLY bad at quilting.

Here is a detailed picture of the block...
Do you see that I used half-square trianges for the star points? I have since seen that the block is made using a "flying geese" unit. I suppose it depends on how you want to make it.
