Dad's Irish Chain Quilt

Irish Chain Here is a Double Irish Chain quilt that I made in a red, white, and blue theme. It was for my Dad's birthday, since he is Irish and his birthday is on the fourth of July!

As you can see, I used a double border, and it is bound in blue. The piecing came out quite good on this quilt! I was very happy with it.

I attempted to machine quilt this quilt, but it was so large, that I ended up tying it instead. I used some batting that was like fluff. It was needled to stay together, but it was just fluff, if you handled it too much, it would come apart. I don't know what brand it was, but I hope I never get it again. It was about this point in my quilting career that I realized that I needed to be mroe careful in my choice of batting.

Here are the two blocks that make up the Double Irish Chain pattern. It is entriely made up of squares, which makes it a very easy quilt to cut and piece, although you must be careful to align seams for the best effect.

It has been a while, but I think I used the Irish Chain pattern from this book.
