The holiday season has been challenging as usual, but I have deployed some strategy that has helped to reduce the damage. My food counselor helped me get this game plan put together and for the most part, with a maximum effort from my wife and me, I think, we've done pretty well.

We had Christmas dinner here at our house with all of the trimmings. But, it was the days leading up to and after Christmas that were the most difficult to deal with, as well as the week between Christmas and New Years Eve and day.  The plan leading up to Christmas was to reduce the number of opportunities for sabotage, by limiting the parties. We always bring foods we can eat to these gatherings and if the temptation gets too strong to partake in the more fattening foods, I leave! Gifts from work that may include candies, cakes, and assorted goodies can be dropped off at the local food bank or given to neighbors. Our dog trainer always gives out boxes of chocolates to her assistants, so we save that one item for Christmas day and share it with the family. Christmas day I don't worry about what I eat, I just go for it. I have feelings of guilt, but I try to relax and go with the flow with the knowledge that I must stop after the holidays are over. It's a hard thing to do since it's easy to continue after the holidays saying to yourself that I will stop tomorrow. But, if you don't follow through with that plan, tomorrow never comes. I must admit, I was strong right up to Christmas Eve. But Christmas day and every day since, I have not been eating my normal healthy diet. However, other than Christmas day, I have not been over eating. I have also maintained my exercise routine throughout it all. I am going to get back on track today, before enjoying New Years with friends and family and I plan on getting back on track for good after the New Year, excluding Super Bowl Sunday.
