Back to Journal Page

I got through the pre holiday period pretty much unscathed by all of the treats and temptations. However, on Christmas day I went for it with a prime rib dinner and all kinds of deserts and a little alcohol. My wife and I hosted a small dinner party here at our home. We had leftovers and I decided not to count my fats or keep a food diary until after new years. I did not go overboard with my eating and did not binge on anything. I ate what was on hand around the house and only when I felt physically hungry. That is a key element for binge eaters, such as I WAS! Now days I ask my self if I am Physically hungry and if I am not, I weigh the risk and reward process. If  I eat this what will be the result? It's a cause and effect evaluation that you have to do with yourself. It does not work unless you really want to succeed and move ahead in attaining your weight loss goals. And I do, so it works for me. I refuse to quit on myself, I AM going to do this thing.

I continued to swim through the two week relaxing period between Christmas and today. I began keeping my food diary again today and did pretty well. I came in about average for me on sodium and five over on fats with 90 grams. My limit on fats per day is 85 grams.

I went swimming today and for the first time had to share a lane with someone. This was odd because I usually have to take up the entire lane because of my girth and the fact that I can only do the breast stroke. Because I have limited range of motion in my right shoulder due to some injuries that required surgery. This guy was really nice, he assured me that it wouldn't be a problem because he was a good swimmer and would navigate around me and not touch me once. He was a very slender man around 55 to 60 years old. He was an awesome swimmer, every time he came near me he would submerge and swim under water like a dolphin. It was incredible how he could cut through the water with such ease. The first time he went by me all I saw was a streak zooming beneath the water like Kevin Costner in water world. People up at the local YMCA are starting to notice me as a regular now and giving me encouragement. That is great because I have always been very self-conscious about my body and swimming exposes me completely to the public. But, I decided that I am there for me and that's the most important thing. Nothing else matters, people can get on board with my cause or get the hell out of my way. Cuz I am doing this all the way. Nothing can stop me! I'm doing it and that's it!
