Back to Journal Page

I have been so busy with all of the added activities that have come with my success this spring. That I haven't had much time to write. But, a lot has happened over the past two months. I finally got in to see my Doctor on April 16th. I had been scheduled to see him in March, but he had to cancel that appointment and one other. I did see my nutritionist on March 26th 2003, and was able to weigh-in. I had only taken off seven pounds from the previous weigh-in in December 2002. I was a bit disappointed at first but knew that my activity level and fitness routine had taken a dramatic upturn, and that I had been sticking to my eating plan. I also knew that I had taken off a considerable number of inches, since I had gone down in three sizes of clothes.
My nutritionist decided that it was time to start counting calories. So he put me on a 3000-calorie limit per day. This adds to the hassle of counting everything that goes into my mouth. But I have been measuring everything anyway, so it wasn't that big of an adjustment. Anyway, I did what was asked of me and at my next weigh-in three weeks later, I had lost nine more pounds. Altogether, I have lost a total of 140 pounds over the past 16 months.

I played my first round of golf in over ten years last Friday with my brother Lou. We played the par three-course at Battle Creek Golf Course near my home. There certainly wasn't a better person to take this huge step forward with, than Lou. He gave me his old golf clubs at least three years ago in an effort to motivate me to better my health. Those clubs have been sitting next to my BowFlex during the past year as I worked my ass off (literally, LOL) so that we could get to this special day. It was an emotional moment for me as I stood there taking my waggle and aligning my first tee shot. I was keyed up and overcome with joy and that made it difficult to concentrate on the task.  But, I did manage to par three of the 18-holes we played. They were all accomplished by getting up and down, since I did not hit the greens in regulation once. A few bogeys and the rest not worth mentioning made for a historic day in both of our lives. It was a huge step forward and I can't wait to get back out there and do it again this week. We plan on making our tee time a weekly thing throughout the summer, as time and weather permit.
