THE GEORGIA SEAL



I have corresponded with a staff officer, in the office of the Secretary of State. She tells me that people have taken liberties with the Great Seal of 1779. The seal of the State of Georgia adopted by the State constitution of 1798. The legislature changed the date of 1776 to coincide with the date of Independence. There was a different seal during the Confederate period and returned to this seal after the war. The word Constitution is on the arch and the banner bears the words Wisdom, Justice, and Moderation and is wrapped around the columns, the soldier stands in readiness to guard the citizens. This seal is the Revolutionary War Seal. In my correspondence with the staff officer it was noted that the Governor authorizes the use and display of the Great Seal. I feel it is safe to display this one, the photo was taken from the back of the monument of Joseph Emerson Brown and his wife on the Capitol grounds, which served as Governor of Georgia during the War Between the States.
