A SOLDIER DIES AND NOAH GETS BLAMED FOR HIS MURDER...

A soldier -- Liebrandt -- tries to enlist the men of Rock Creek into the army. One man steps forward and accuses the soldier of lying and taking his son away from him. A fist fight ensues, one which Kid and Noah breaks up. The soldier calls Noah a coward, but Noah points out that it is more cowardly to draw a gun on an unarmed man like the soldier did. Embarrassed in front of the town folks, the soldier's ire transfers to Noah.

The two meet again while the black rider and Rachel were shopping at Tompkin's new store. Harsh words are exchanged but Rachel and Tompkins manage to pull the adversaries away from each other. A young boy impressed by Noah's earlier heroics introduces himself as Quinn Ellis. Noah meets and is instantly smitten with Quinn's sister, Cassie. He begins asking Rachel questions about the young woman. Noah finally goes to see Cassie again, but their meeting is interrupted by Liebrandt, who insults Cassie's honor. Noah stands up for the young woman and he and the soldier slug it out. Noah wins and threatens to kill the soldier if he ever goes near Cassie again. That night, Jesse finds Liebrandt dead in an alley. He was stabbed on the back.

Teaspoon calls Noah and questions him. The rider is upset that Teaspoon and his friends would even ask him about Liebrandt's death. Meanwhile, a colonel from the army arrives to apprehend the soldier's killer. He begins to turn the town upside down with his investigations.

Cassie tries to discourage Noah from his pursuit of her, but he is insistent. While they were having a picnic, Noah is told that the army is looking to arrest him. He hides in the woods. Later, Jesse finds Noah and brings him food. He also tells the rider that Liebrandt's watch was found in his belongings. Noah, of course, denied even seeing it. Jesse also tells Noah that he saw Cassie's brother Quinn at the bunkhouse earlier. Noah realizes Quinn might have something to do with Liebrandt's dead and rushes to confront the young boy. When Cassie sees Noah and Quinn, she confesses that she was the one who killed Liebrandt.

Apparently, Liebrandt attacked her and she fought back. She got hold of a pair of scissors and managed to kill Liebrandt. Noah goes into town and surrenders himself to the colonel but Cassie stepped forward and told the truth. The colonel -- seeing what his soldier had done -- let's the crime go.
