CODY FALLS IN LOVE WITH A WOMAN WHO MAY BE INVOLVED IN GUNRUNNING ACTIVITIES...

Cody fancies a knife in Tompkins' store but a boy steals it before he gets to buy it. Cody goes after the young boy and tries to make him give up the knife. The boy insists he is innocent until his mother -- a lovely widows named Julia Tobin -- arrives. Cody is instantly smitten. Julia forces her son, Daniel, to give her knife and she returns it to Cody. Later, Cody sees Daniel fighting in school and decides to take him home. He strikes a deal with the young boy -- Daniel stays in school for one whole week and he keeps the knife. Daniel is delighted by the deal and the newfound friendship with Cody.

Outside of town, a gang of Southern sympathizers hold up a buckboard of supplies. They open up the crates marked pottery and find guns instead. They kill the driver and take the weapons. With no other place to go, the gang hides the weapons at Julia's, whose late husband used to ride with them. Julia refuses but is threatened by the gang leader, a man named Kimball.

Far away from Rock Creek, Buck is on a run when he finds what looked like an abandoned wagon. However, he finds an armed pregnant woman whose husband and brother were slaughtered by a gang of thieves. Buck helps the woman, who in turn helps him deal with his grief over Ike's death. Buck even assists in the birthing of the baby. The woman wanted to name the infant after buck but he asks that the boy be named after Ike McSwain.

Back in town, Kid and Jimmy tease Cody about his growing affection for Julia. Lou, on the other hand, understands the confusion Cody is going through and admonishes the boys. She tells Cody love is confusing enough without your friends ribbing you about it. Cody asks for advice and Lou tells him he might have to tell Julia how he feels. That night, Cody pays the young widow a visit but as they prepare to sit down and talk, Kimball and his men arrive. Cody hides and sees Kimball hide more guns. He confronts Julia after the gang leaves and she confesses her involvement with the gang. Cody vows to protect her from Kimball.

With Teaspoon's help, Cody comes up with a plan to get the guns out of Julia's place. He tells Julia about it and she nearly cries with relief. They finally acknowledge their growing feelings for each other and kiss. Daniel sees them and though Cody is his friend, he feels betrayed. He goes to Kimball and tells him he heard his mother and Cody talking about the guns. Julia wakes up and realizes Daniel ran away. She immediately goes to Cody for help.

Kimball and his men arrive at Julia's place and take the guns but before they leave, Teaspoon and the riders arrive. A shoot-out takes place and Kimball's men are defeated. Kimball, on the other hand, takes Daniel hostage but the young boy manages to get away by biting his hand. Cody and Kimball fight one on one until a gun fires and Kimball rolls away dead. Julia decides to leave town and Cody is broken-hearted.
