A House Divided
In The Presence Of Mine Enemies Till Death Do Us Part (Part One) Till Death Do Us Part (Part Two) |
Just Like Old Times KID'S CHILDHOOD SWEETHEART ARRIVES IN ROCK CREEK AND POSES A THREAT TO KID AND LOU'S NEW CLOSENESS... It's the first anniversary of Jed's death and the Kid starts feeling guilty about not being able to save his brother. Lou tells him that there's one thing a person couldn't do, that is save a person from himself. In St. Jo, Missouri, a young woman is reading a letter from Russell, Majors and Waddell. It seems she made inquiries about Kid's whereabouts and the company told her the rider was stationed in Rock Creek. The woman then persuades her husband to go to Rock Creek instead of California.
Garth is not just involved in business as Doritha believes. He is also a thief. He holds up three men who themselves just robbed an overland stage. He kills one of the men and manages to escape. The other two go after him. Kid visits Doritha and they talk about old times. Doritha tells Kid that after he left, her father died and they lost everything. Sometime later she married her one persistent suitor, Garth. Doritha tells Kid she always knew they would see each other again. Garth sees them together and becomes jealous. Another one who becomes uncomfortable with Doritha and Kid's closeness is Lou. She asks Kid what his relationship with Doritha is but he is evasive. Doritha comes over for dinner and charms the riders with stories about her and Kid's childhood. In most of the stories, Kid comes out a hero and her affection for him is quite evident. Jimmy tries to get Kid's real name from her -- to no avail. Rachel -- who sees the way Doritha looks at Kid -- approaches their guest and warns her not to hurt Kid. Doritha says she doesn't intend to. When they get to Doritha's home, Garth is there and he is a bit drunk. He insults Kid and calls him a two-bit hero. After Kid leaves, he confront Doritha and accuses her of choosing Rock Creek because of Kid. Their argument is broken up when one of the men Garth help up earlier bursts in and starts shooting. Good thing Kid hears the sounds of gunfire and returns to the house. He saves Doritha and Garth.
Teaspoon puts Doritha under the riders' protection while he and the Kid find out what is happening. Doritha talks to Lou and realizes how much Lou and Kid love each other. She writes Kid a note saying she is leaving town and going back to Virginia. On the road, the man who killed Garth stops her and demands to have his money. Doritha couldn't give him anything since she threw the money and the bonds away. Kid arrives and draws on the man. Seeing no way out, the man fires but Doritha steps in the way and is shot. She dies in Kid's arms. After her funeral Kid tells Lou he never felt more alone in his life.
Lou responds saying Kid has Teaspoon, the boys, Rachel and her. Lou offers
her hand and Kid takes it, smiling. (There seems
to be a consensus that Kid and Lou got back together at the end of this
episode)
