KID AND LOU MARRY JUST AS CIVIL WAR BREAKS OUT...

The two-part series finale opens with the death of Isiah Burke and his men at the hands of Southern raiders. Only Rosemary survives and she hides in a safehouse.

In Rock Creek, Lou returns from her final ride to find the bunkhouse empty. She goes to the barn and gets a surprise from the Rachel, Jesse, Noah and Buck. Noah gives her flowers. Buck gives her an apron and tells her they have embroidered her name on it, then he adds that they would have added Kid's name, except they didn't know what it was. Jesse gives Lou knitting needles. Though delighted by their thoughfulness, Lou is a bit dismayed by the gifts. Rachel cheers Lou up telling the younger woman that her future looks "mighty bright."

Meanwhile, Jimmy and Kid are preparing to go home after a special run. Jimmy finds Kid a little bit preoccupied and asks him if he is worrying about getting married. Kid hesitantly admits he is a bit concerned about the future but Jimmy assures him that Kid is the woman for him. Kid then asks Jimmy if he ever thought of getting married and Jimmy says he doesn't think settled life is for him. Just then, Union soldiers pass by.

Back in Rock Creek, Noah and Cody are in Teaspoon's office playing checkers. Cody nags Noah about what Lou's last name would be if she marries Kid. Teaspoon tells the riders he wouldn't be able to pronounce Kid and Lou man and wife if Kid doesn't "spill the beans." Their discussion is interrupted by the arrival of Teaspoon's friend, who is an officer in the army. He tells Teaspoon he is in town recruiting for the army. Teaspoon becomes furious, especially when the young men of Rock Creek start signing up. Cody also joins the army which creates a furor at the bunkhouse.

Kid and Jimmy pass by a waystation and they hear about Isiah's death. Jimmy gets worried about his sister and brother-in-law and tries to find them in one of the safehouses. He finds Rosemary instead and takes her back to Rock Creek with him. When they stop at a hotel for the night, Rosemary tells Jimmy about a list that she has which contains the name of the Southern raiders. She asks him not to tell Kid and he grudgingly agrees. But when they are ambushed, Rosemary finally tells the truth. Kid is, understandably, furious at being lied at and tells Jimmy that he wasn't trusted because he was from the South. He adds that Jimmy seems interested in replacing Isiah in more ways than one. Jimmy gets mad and a fight ensues. Kid leaves with a black eye and tells Jimmy he didn't want the young Hickok to stand at his wedding. Later, Rosemary persuades Jimmy to make peace with the Kid.

In Rock Creek, Lou receives another gift, this time from Rachel. The housemother gives the female rider a pair of earrings which she said is handed from daughter to daughter in her family. Rachel says she doesn't think she'll ever have a daughter and since she already thinks of Lou as one, then the earrings should go to her. Later that night, Lou can't sleep. She goes out to wait for Kid. When he arrives, she almost squeezes him to death with her hug. Kid joshes her about getting worried he wasn't going to show up at their wedding. Lou notices his blackeye but Kid makes up a white lie and says Katie fell. Lou doesn't believe him, but Kid assures her that nothing is going to ruin their wedding day. He presents her with matching gold wedding bands.

The next day, the riders are up early for Kid and Lou's wedding. Kid is in a hurry to be wed. When they remind him Jimmy isn't there yet, he says Hickok knows what time the wedding was going to be and if he really wanted to be there, he would have arrived on time. With Jimmy missing, Rachel asks Jesse to walk Lou down the aisle. Midway to the aisle, Jimmy and Rosemary burst in. Kid smiles, signaling everything is fine. Teaspoon waits for Kid to say his real name, but the rider with the "funny name" whispers it to the Marshall's ear instead. Teaspoon frowns at Kid but is "forced" to use the rider's moniker, much to the consternation of the rest of the riders and the townfolks.

Just as the wedding party prepare to leave the church, several soldiers arrive. Fighting has broken out along the borders with heavy casualty on both sides. One of Lou's younger friends, Michael, die in front of the newlyweds.
